About Us
The Signal Hill Education Foundation (SHEF) is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation, and has been designated a 501( c) (3) tax-exempt organization by the Internal Revenue Service. Gifts to the Foundation are tax-deductible.
SHEF's purpose is to seek and accept monetary gifts from individuals, groups and businesses to establish and maintain a principal fund ( the "continuing fund"), and to use the earnings from that fund to provide for family-oriented and child-centered educational activities. These activities are designed to enrich and supplement the regular education programs offered to Signal Hill School students, as well as to provide support for community projects which will benefit all residents.
SHEF is governed by a Board of Directors made up of nine members. The board determines how funds are invested and how they will be spent. Each year, the Board reviews requests for grants from the Signal Hill Board of Education, as well as individuals and organizations in the community, in deciding how the SHEF funds will be used.
